WHAT IT IS • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a therapy based on the science of learning and behavior. This evidence-based therapy includes scientific studies and research that helps us understand how behavior works, how behavior is affected by the environment, and how learning takes place. The goal of ABA therapy is to help your child work on skills to improve independence and success in the short- and long-term.
ABA therapy is considered an evidence-based best practice treatment because scientific studies have proven its usefulness, quality, and effectiveness that focuses on antecedents (what happens before a behavior occurs) and consequences (what happens after the behavior).
THE TEAM • Our team of Behavior Therapists and Licensed and Board-Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) focus on changing behaviors to improve mood and overall function. One technique used is positive reinforcement, where positive behavior change is encouraged when a reward follows a behavior. Such methods of behavior analysis can be used to help your child gain different skills — or help reduce problematic behaviors.
HOW WE DO IT • One of our BCBAs will create a detailed function behavior assessment of your child’s abilities. A functional behavior assessment is taken. We also take a preferences assessment of what your child likes and dislikes. We use the information to write specific treatment goals individualized to your child. Family goals and preferences are discussed and addressed. Treatment goals also consider the age and ability of your child.
